Ok. so anyone who knows me, knows that I prefer BBWs and SSBBWs. (Big Beautiful Woman and Super Sized BBW) One of my biggest complaints is that society thinks it's ok to make fun of fat people. Why? Why would this not be considered a form of prejudice?
Prejudice Dan? Absolutely. My wives have a harder time finding a job because of their size. People look at them and think that they won't be able to perform the job functions necessary. Now, both girls know their limitations and WOULDN'T be applying for anything that they wouldn't be able to do. Hmm, so they're refused a job because of size. Prejudice.
My wife had an instance where someone refused to give her a pedicure because the lady thought my wife was too big for the chair. Prejudice.
Need seats on the airplane? No problem. That'll be the price of two tickets please. Oh, you're by yourself? Ok. That'll be the price of two tickets please. Prejudice.
Why do we allow this? Why is it ok for things like this to go on but it's not ok for anyone to discriminate based on race, religion, creed. Why can't we add fat to that list?
Yeah, I said fat. That's part of the problem kids. We give words too much power. I'm fat. So what? My wives are fat. If they weren't fat I wouldn't be with them. When we give people the power to hurt us with their ignorant words we enable them to be able to get away with some of the things I mentioned earlier.
You know what else grinds my gears (bonus points to anyone who knows where that's from) all of these weight loss commercials and tv shows on losing weight. Don't get me wrong, if you want/need to lose weight for health reasons go right ahead. I like big girls, but health is much more imporant than a physical preference. I also don't care of places need to advertise their services. What bothers me about these commercials and tv shows is how they portray overweight people.
One of the worst is a bariatric surgery commercial where a man says he wants to take karate lessons with his daughter. A woman says that she wants to fly to Paris with her husband. Why can't these things happen when you're bigger? Why is it always portrayed that if you're fat, you're unhappy OR unhealthy. Folks, hate to break it to you, but my wife has a better blood pressure and cholesterol than I who is thinner. Things that make you go hmmmm.
Is it harder to do certain things when you're a bigger person? Of course! But if you're ok with your size, then you're going to be ok with that. You're going to know that when you go to a restuarant you need a table, not a booth. You're going to know that a trip to the mall isn't going to be quick. But guess what. Those things are all possible being big.
Now, here's the catch kids. We have to stop accepting this. My girls get upset with me when I say something in return to someone who makes a rude or snide comment about one of the girls. They say that it makes things worse. And they're right. In most cases it does. But as I've said to them. Someone has to tell these people that those types of comments aren't ok. It's not alright to stare at someone and say to their child. See what happens when you eat too much. You end up looking like that. REALLY?? You think that's an appropriate way to raise your child?? Then we wonder why kids go around shooting people up. (We'll have to save that rant for another day)
I think I'm done for now. I have one favor to ask of those reading this blog. If you're a thin person, please please don't pass judgement on someone simply because of their size. It's an old cliche, but it still works. Never judge a book by its cover. Might be surprised at what you learn once you start reading. If you're a big person, love yourself. It's ok to be big. Don't let others get you down. You give them that much power and they only hurt you with it. Be happy and most of all be proud of who you are.
